Chinese New Year

28th Jan 2025

Chinese New Year is the celebration of the new year in China, it is the main Chinese festival in the Chinese calendar and says goodbye to the old year and in with the new.

We celebrate it this year with David in P6 and he has been helping us understand their traditions.

The Chinese use a lunar calendar for their annual celebrations, this means Chinese New Year has a slightly different date every year. It usually takes place late January - February.

There are 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac and they are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Each year is represented by one of these animals.

What animal was it, the year you were born?
